So this morning we went to Dr's Schneider office to check on the girl's weights and were very proud that Penny's gained 156g and now is at 577g! Lydia now weighs 1069g and is still doing just great. Penny's heart did have fluid around it and the walls of her heart were looking thick again. The issue was that Dr Schneider is out of town and we had to see one of the other doctor's in the practice who was not as familiar with our extenuating circumstances. So, considering the new finding, she decided that we needed to go ahead and deliver ASAP. She said to go home, pack bags, and be at the hospital in 2 hours.
Needless to say we were more than a little freaked out! Fortunately my mom was there to provide a little sanity and to make us stop aimlessly rushing around the house and help us figure out what to pack! A funny thing is that last night she joked that I was obviously not a Nobles because I didn't have a bag packed already just in case they put me in the hospital today. We laughed then...we laughed more today when we realized she was right! I can't begin to describe how we were feeling. Excited, scared, brainless (to name a few). I was really more nervous because I wanted to hear it from Dr. Schneider or at least Dr Moise that this was the right decision. After pulling myself together and us getting admitted to the hospital, I called my regular OB who called Dr Schneider and got in touch with Dr. Moise's nurse (and wife) Karen and got them all in the loop so together they came up with the plan we're following now. It just makes me feel better knowing that the doctor's I've trusted all along are the ones that are making the decisions now about our little girls.
So the plan is to stay here (Methodist Germantown) for them to monitor the girls, to get another round of steroids to help their lungs develop, and to do the magnesium sulfate IV wash 12 hours before the c-section. We're scheduled for a 4pm Wednesday section. Now that I'm here and have my little SED leg squeezer boots, my IV site set up, and my little fetal monitors beating away next to me I'm feeling much better.
