4-13

Penelope -2508 (5 lbs 8 oz)   Lydia - 9 lbs 8.5 oz

I think that time has changed pace on me and I didn't get the memo!  All of a sudden days sneak by and I don't even realize that it's happened!  It could be that I tend to be up in 3 hour increments around the clock, but I have the most lovely company!  Lydia has decided that in preparation from Penny's coming home that she should not get used to sleeping longer than 3 hours since Penny will be up that often anyway and she doesn't want to miss a party.  She's such a logical thinker.  She continues to get bigger (almost completely out of newborn sized clothes now) and seems to be developing somewhere between a 4 month old  and a 4 week old.  She's fixing and following with her eyes and actually making the beginnings of some social smiles!  It just melts your heart (even if it is mostly gas)

Penny is inching her way closer to coming home every day!  She now weighs 5.5 lbs which is the minimum to make her eligible for her hernia surgery!  Because she's still only taking a bottle every other feed, they're going to go ahead and do all the workup for the possible g-tube and nissan fundoplication (oh yea...that's a big word word for reflux repair surgery) in the expectation that she'll need it.  She'll be having an upper GI scan on Monday.  The surgery isn't on the schedule yet but should be some time next week.  This is exciting and scary all at the same time!  The surgery is what we've been waiting on for her to be able to come home, but it also means that she'll have to go back on the ventilator (for the surgery) and it makes me a bit nervous that she might take a while to get off of it.  Different nurses have given us different ball park ideas as to how long it will take her to recover and get home.  Everything from a few days to a few weeks.  Of course the "planner" in me wants date and times but I know that isn't possible.  I'm just beyond ready to have my girls together at home and get on with the rest of our chaotic life!  So our prayer is for complication free preparation, surgery, and healing.

In anticipation of her coming home, she's also been switched to a "home oxygen" setup.  This means that the oxygen itself is set at 100% and the pressure is about .25 of a liter.  Before she was at about 28% oxygen and 2 liters of flow.

I got to speak with Jackie and Josh Smith yesterday and was SO excited to hear that they planned to extubate sweet Lynnlee today! What a huge miracle!!!  When she was on the oscillator just a few days ago the doctors seemed to have run out of things to do to help her.  I guess that's where the Lord steps in a shows off.  She's steadily been improving ever since the doctors implied defeat.  It's a beautiful thing.

Specific Prayer
  • Lynnlee's continued miraculous improvement
  • Penelope's preparation, surgery, and recovery to be complication free
  • Lydia's development
  • Jonathan's being away
  • Bethany's peace and patience
