Well that was an eventful hour.
Jonathan and I were trying to stay calm and make our way to be with
Penny for a few hours before she had to go to surgery. On the way to
the airport to drop off his rental car (he drove in from Nashville this
morning at 3) we got a call from the nurse saying they were taking her
in early and that she would be in surgery in 30 minutes. After a brief
moment of processing I realized that we weren't going to be able to see
her at all before her surgery! Of course this was not acceptable.
Immediately the traffic thickened, the lights all turned red, and
everyone decided to slow down because of all of the police presence due
to the Presidential visit today. Of course. Just when we're trying our
hardest to get to our baby!
Long story longer, we
made it to the hospital just after they took her back to prep her for
surgery and thought for sure we wouldn't see her. Then, miracle of
miracles, they came out and said they were waiting for the surgeon so we
could visit with her for a minute! So we got to hold her and pray with
her and love on her before she went back. She was so calm and serene,
lovin on her paci, and looking around at her new surroundings. Just
precious. Jonathan went to the "bunny room" and picked her out a cute
little toy and then she was off to surgery. It turned out that her
nurse for her pre-surgery part was a friend of a good friend of ours.
The Lord is so good to always provide us with comfort right when we need
it.
Now we're back in the room waiting for her and for
a call from the nurse downstairs to give us updates on things. In fact
she just called to let us know that Penny went to sleep great and
they're starting right now. So get to praying!
