4-23

Well well well, little miss Penny pulled her little self together and kept her co2 low enough for long enough that she got to go back to the regular high flow canula instead of the uncomfortable cpap contraption!  I'm so proud of her that she didn't have to be intubated! Our little fighter just keeps fighting (and by that I mean the Lord is fighting for her).  She's had a bit of a tough time with her IVs though.  She has to keep an IV so that she can get her antibiotics (because she'd been exposed to whatever virus I have) and they seem to keep blowing every time they try to get one!  Poor girl had them trying for 45 minutes today to get a new IV and the only place they could get one was in her forehead.  I don't get to visit her until I feel better so I don't have a picture yet, but I'm dying to know if she looks like a unicorn.  I'm guessing no.  Other than her IV issues she seems to be doing well so we're very excited! Any time an acute stage passes is good for me!

Lydia had her 4 month checkup today and did really well.  She's now above the 50th percentile in height, weight, and head circumference for preemies!  She also got her vaccinations, which she wasn't a huge fan of, but the nurse did a great job of doing them quickly.  That look of betrayal on Lydia's face while I held her down was a bit sad, but at least I didn't cry this time like I did at the eye appointment. The vaccinations make me a little bit nervous because she didn't handle her 2 month vaccinations well.  Maybe her larger size will make this a bit smoother. Her thickened feeds are working wonderfully and she has big plans of spending the next 2 days on her daddy's chest.  I just have to make sure to get my hug in before he picks her up or I may never get it!

That leads to my favorite part of this update.  The part where I tell you not to expect an update until Tuesday because Jonathan will be here and hopefully neither one of us will be spending much time in cyberland because we'll be busy acting like a family.  Since we've both been a bit under the weather we're really hoping that we feel well enough to be able to visit Penny and to enjoy our time.  So Happy Easter to you all!

Specific Prayer
  • Penelope's continued improvement
  • Lydia's reaction to her vaccinations
  • Our quick recovery
  • Our precious family time
